A list of random questions with random answers in a random order:
Q) Are the images on your site full size?
A) No, all the images are posted at 50% size or smaller. That’s more than big enough to view on screen.
Q) Can I use your photographs for [usage]?
A) No. The images on the somewhere random suite of sites are copyright and cannot be used without explicit permission.
Q) Can I purchase your photographs?
A) I’m flattered that you’d want to, however, this is very much a hobby and not a business. Currently there is no way to buy any of my images.
Q) Can I commission you to photograph [event/place/thing]?
A) No. This is very much a hobby, not a business and I really don’t enjoy the pressure of taking photographs on assignment.
Q) If I invite you to [event/place] will you take photographs?
A) If I want to come, have time to come and there is something worth photographing, yes. Whether you get any of the photographs very much depends on if I’ve managed to take anything worth sharing and what we’ve agreed in the first place. That said, unless I know you the chances of me accepting random invites to something are slim unless you’re going to offer me something like unprecedented access to photograph snow leopards.
Q) What equipment do you use?
A) I shoot using a Canon EOS 1D Mark II body, EF 70-200mm 2.8 L USM, EF 24-70mm 2.8L USM, EF 100 2.8 USM Macro and EF 50mm 1.4 USM. I also use a Canon Speedlite 420EX flash, Hoya filters and Manfrotto tripods, monopods and heads. I also have an old Canon EOS 30D which I use if my 1D is out of action. Photos are edited on a Mac using Aperture and Photoshop.
Q) How do I take photographs like you?
A) Sling several grand at equipment and practice. Lots.
Q) Will you teach me to take photographs?
A) Over an above what I put on notes from…, no.
Q) Who are you?
A) I’m a random 30 something developer who works in the city for a random company and enjoys photography. My personal blog can be found here if you’re that interested.
